What a complete BaZi analysis covers
1 · The chart itself — computed, or everything after is fiction
Your chart is four pillars — year, month, day, hour — each carrying a heavenly stem and an earthly branch. Eight characters: 八字. Before interpretation can start, three pieces of calendar math have to be exactly right: your clock time converted to true solar time for your birthplace, the month pillar set by solar terms (not calendar months), and the day pillar checked against the midnight boundary. Get any of these wrong and the analysis that follows describes someone else. This is why we publish our methodology — and why fluent-sounding AI chatbot readings so often start from a miscomputed chart.
2 · The Day Master — the “you” the chart acts on
The heavenly stem of your day pillar is your Day Master: one of ten elemental archetypes, from the Oak to the Mist. Everything else in the chart is read relative to it. The same Fire that fuels one chart burns another — it depends on who is standing in the middle.
3 · The five roles — one element count, five different lives
Here is the step most free calculators skip entirely. Your chart’s five elements are not just amounts — each one plays a role defined by its relationship to your Day Master. The element that feeds you is your Resource (learning, rest, backing). The one you produce is your Output (expression, creation). The one you control is your Wealth (what you can claim from the world). The one that controls you is your Power (structure, pressure, discipline) — and your own element doubled is your Peer line (allies and competition). “You have a lot of Metal” means nothing on its own; “your Wealth element is absent” is a sentence about your life.
4 · Strength — the same chart, read in opposite directions
A Day Master standing on abundant Resource and Peer support is strong: it can spend — take pressure, produce, claim. One standing nearly alone is weak: the analysis flips, and what looks like opportunity in a strong chart reads as drain in a weak one. Strength is the hinge on which everything else turns, which is why two people with similar element counts can need opposite advice.
5 · The central tension — where your chart argues with itself
Every chart has a dominant element and a deficient one, and the space between them is usually where a person’s recurring pattern lives — the thing that keeps happening in work, in love, under stress. Naming that tension precisely, and what steadies it, is the real payoff of an analysis. The free reading names the pattern; the full Operating Manual maps it and gives the counterweight.
What a BaZi analysis is not
It is not a prediction machine, and anyone selling certainty is selling theater. A chart cannot know your future; a good analysis asks you sharper questions about it. Your birth date at minimum. Birth time and city sharpen it considerably: the time sets your hour pillar, and the city lets us correct clock time to true solar time, which can change the chart for people born near pillar boundaries.
Can ChatGPT do a BaZi analysis?
Language models routinely miscompute the chart itself — solar-time correction, month-pillar boundaries at solar terms, and late-night day-pillar flips are exact calendar math, not text prediction. An analysis built on a miscomputed chart is fiction, however fluent it sounds. Compute the chart with a validated engine first; then interpretation can begin.
